Patron saints are those who know what it’s like to live here on earth. But now because of their path to holiness share in the very kingdom of God.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us that the saints contemplate God, praise him and constantly care for those whom they have left on earth. We also read that their intercession is their most exalted service to God’s plan.
So as we contemplate the saints, as we think about or read about their own lives, mission and ministry, we think about their lives in light of our lives. Patron saints are those that we most closely identify with.
If you’re looking for a patron saint, think about someone, perhaps who shares your name, perhaps they shared in the same vocation as we live out here on earth now, or do a little research, consider reading, The Lives of the Saints. Learn about those who shared a similar path to holiness as you do. Pray about it, ask the Holy Spirit to give you a name.
Patron saints encourage us and pray for us. Allow them to use now their exalted status in the kingdom of heaven for your good. They desire to pray for you, to encourage you, so that you too may share in the joys of the kingdom of heaven.
